3D Projects
I undertook this project in an effort to improve my 3D CAD skills. The prompt was to design a 3D form in Rhino that when duplicated could connect together to create a new form. While the common instinct would be to create puzzle pieces, I was instead inspired by the game Barrel of Monkeys to create pieces that could chain together instead. Given the final step of this project was to hand carve out 20 of this shape, I decided to design an elementary version of the monkey chains. I designed the piece itself and created mockups of possible ways the pieces could be linked in Rhino. I then used Rhino to laser cut pieces of wood that would serve as physical mockups of the handmade woodworking pieces I would create later on.

Barrel of Monkeys 3D CAD
This series was an exercise in designing children's toys. The series consists of five of the characters from Shrek made into interactive shapes. Each character is a different 3D shape: the dragon is a diamond, Fiona is a drum, Donkey is a pyramid, Lord Farquaad is a cube, and Shrek is a soccer ball. The outside of the shapes depicts the character, while the inside depicts the characters desire in the film.

The Boot
Sculpture made out of a boot. Challenged to combine various prompts into one design. These prompts included Edward Scissorhands, a blob fish, Roy Lichenstein's "Girl with Hair Ribbon", and Topkapi Palace.
The small sculptures are made entirely of hot glue, and are meant to resemble the ice sculptures in Edward Scissorhands. Additionally, Edward's house is depicted on top of the boot using paint and card stock, his portrait is painted on the toe with 3D scars made from tissues and glue and yarn for the hair, and the neighborhood below his home is depicted going down the laces made from card stock and painted sand.
On the left side of the boot is a blob fish made from hot glue and paint, dressed as the girl in "Girl with Hair Ribbon" using yarn as the hair. She is surrounded by small black beads that are reminiscent of Lichtenstein's use of dots.
Above the hot glue sculptures are two frescoes from Topkapi palace, made using acrylic paint with an ornamental gold ribbon border. The heel has representations of the patterns in Topkapi Palace made from acrylic paint and beads, and the shoe sole was painted white with an ornamental Topkapi pattern made from hot glue and blue glitter.
