Divorce Dress
A dress fit for a divorcee! This dress is inspired by a photoshoot I saw on social media in which a woman took divorce announcement celebratory photos. After seeing these photos I was thinking of a dress one might wear to a divorce ceremony. I firstly wanted the dress to emulate a popular wedding dress shape: the mermaid gown. I created this effect by layering a corseted black dress over a brightly colored tulle one. The top corseted dress is meant to symbolize the mourning of the relationship, and is tight and restrictive to symbolize the trapped feeling a toxic marriage can inflict. The colorful tulle dress underneath represents the freedom and color that can return to a divorcee's life after she leaves a toxic relationship. Similar to a veil at a wedding, I imagine at a divorce ceremony the ties that attach and restrict the divorcee's hair will be untied, and then the rest of the corseted dress will be taken off to reveal the colorful tulle dress that the divorcee will wear to divorcee party after after the ceremony.
